Introducing Tactical Drops: Full Color Printed Token Crowdsales

When we launched Tactical Tokens back in 2018, we led with a full variety of printed art tokens. Through a painstaking effort by our glorious leader Dave, more than 25,000 tokens were handcrafted.

He doesn’t want to do that ever again.

So, when we sorted out manufacturing and launched our Kickstarter for blank tokens – Dave was very pleased not to have to hand-squeeze each and every one of the 30,000 blank tokens that you all ordered.

And now that we really have manufacturing figured out, it’s time to get colorful again!

Tactical Drops: Full Color Printed Token Crowdsales

We’re still on a shoestring budget, but we wanted to figure out how we could launch print tokens again without needing to go all-in on a big Kickstarter.

Introducing Tactical Drops: fast, $100 mini campaigns for individual full-color token designs.

Here’s how it works.

Step 1. Prep & Vote

We partner with an artist and vote on which designs to move forward with in Discord.

Want your design used? Looking for a specific creature? Let us know!

Step 2. Launch

We publish the campaign on our site.

It could include a single design or a dozen, either way the campaign will only last for a few days.

Step 3. Order

You purchase as many of each design as you want. It’s like building your own bundle!

Step 4. Campaign Over

If we raise $100 (per design), we’ll

  • Send the order off to manufacturing to be machine-made
  • Upgrade the first 100 tokens to first edition (first come, first served)
  • Add the token(s) to the store

If we don’t raise $100, Dave will handcraft them – just ignore the single tear streaming down his face. You’ll still get your tokens, but they won’t be machine-made first editions and they won’t be added to the store.

Handcrafted vs Manufactured Tokens.

Step 5. Delivery

We’ll have those pretty tokens in your hands within 8 weeks!

That’s it! At the end of the campaign, you’re guaranteed to get your tokens. It’s just a matter of whether they’ll be hand-crafted or machine-made first editions.

Our first drop: Common Creatures by Devin Night

We love Devin‘s work. It was a no-brainer for us to pull him in for the relaunch of printed tokens.

To start, we’re going to launch with some basic creatures to test the Tactical Drop framework. We need to fill out the collection anyway, so what better place to start than with common enemies like Goblins and Orcs.

We’re currently voting on designs in Discord, so be sure to join in the discussion so we can pick the best set.

This drop will include at least 4 designs, each at the $100 target – $400 total goal. Stay tuned for the drop date!

The future of drops

While Devin has a huge collection that we can’t wait to dig into, we’re really excited to partner with other artists to launch their collections as well! Once we have drops running smoothly, we’ll open the doors for artists to run their own campaigns and kick printing into high gear!

On top of that, we’ll start working on stretch goals for future projects, larger tokens of course, and some other fun campaigns, too.
