Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina is Coming to Amazon!
Matthew Mercer and other members of the Critical Role cast have been teasing something huge for a while now. We’ve been hearing about it on their Twitch Stream and in their Tweets for weeks, but us critters have been left wondering what on Exandria could be such big news. Well today the beans were finally spilled!
In addition to the 10 episodes funded by the wonderful Critters who backed their Kickstarter, Amazon has ordered an a additional 14 episodes, for a total of 24 episodes across two seasons. At roughly 22 minutes planned per episode, we can expect nearly 9 hours of animated Vox Machina awesomeness.
While no official release date is set, if all goes well we can expect season 1 to drop in late 2020.
What does this mean for Backers of the Kickstarter?
According to Critical Role’s latest Update on Kickstarter, “Kickstarter backers … will still have an opportunity to watch the two-part special that kicks off the series before anyone else AND because you’re a backer, you’ll be able to access the first season for free.”.
The logistics are still being worked out but backers can rest assured that they will still be able to watch the first season without subscribing to Amazon Prime.
Originally there was only going to be 10 episodes in the series as funded by Kickstarter. Now that Amazon has signed this deal, they are essentially blustering the budget of season 1 to bring it up to 12 full episodes and covering the cost of season two entirely. That means backers have Amazon to thank for two completely free additional episodes. However, some backers have expressed concerns over the level of control Amazon might wield over the project at large.
Big dreams, Taliesin. Big dreams
Here is a magical moment for those Critters who have been following Critical Role since it’s early days:
Campaign 1, Episode 32 – Against the Tide of Bone. Originally aired on November 12th, 2015.
May your ship never stop sailing. Thank you Critical Role.
